Paul Marshall
Paul Marshall agreed to do another interview with us, I find this surprising considering the last one we did - we took a rather odd quote from him and made him sound like a bit of a queer. Paul's music though, is kind of dark, but in a way that we can relate to which is nice. Since Issue 2 Paul has been signed to Bella Union, recorded more acoustic wonders and has been notching gigs on his musical bed posts faster than a musical gig bed notcher with more experience in gig bed notching.
Paul is playing a bunch of festivals this summer, if you can, then go see him.

First time you picked up an instrument?
Theres a video of me playing a toy piano when i was three years old. I hope that counts. I've always thought of that bit of video being the part of the documentary to accompany some kind of "ever since he was a child, everyone knew he'd be a musician" type quote. Keep your eyes on BBC Four... ;)
What time does Paul Marshall clock off?
If you mean go to bed, usually 1ish on a school night. But at the weekends i don't know if i actually do clock off??
If you could share a drink with anyone, who would it be?
That would have to be Tom Waits. I've just paid £95 for a ticket to go and see him in Edinburgh so the least he can do is buy me a pint! But in all seriousness, i'd love to have a chat with that man.
A common misconception about yourself is?
That i am NOT going bald. Actually that has never been a misconception...

Fuck. Shit. Piss. Balls. Arse. Usually in the same sentence.
Your one weakness?
Spiders. I am 100% Arachnophobic. Don't ask me why. Yes, i know they cant hurt me (in this country anyway), but if my fear was rational, i wouldn't have a phobia.
Your guilty pleasure?
I'm not going to take full blame for this one. Playing Settlers of Catan with the Wintermute boys! Jesus that game is good. And they introduced me to it. And My DS. They introduced me to that too!

Ahh shit so sorry i haven't paid you, the HSBC site wasn't working properly....
Your favorite possession?
I would normally say my guitar or my ipod, but they are about to be overshadowed (until i get bored) by my brand spanking new Nord Electro 2 synth... Im converting my spare room into a scaled down Jean Michel Jarre concert. Everyone's invited.
Last book you read?
I read far too little. How about the next book i'm going to read is called 'Moab Is My Washpot' by Stephen Fry

I haven't had a physical fight since school luckily. I hate that shit. I'm an argumentative bastard so i dare say i had one yesterday which probably involved me being in the wrong!
Do you believe in Ghosts?
Yes. To a degree. I don't just hear a creek in the house and think, shit there's a ghost! but i've had some bizarre unexplainable experiences in which i would have like to have been looking when something mysteriously ended up on the other side of the room.

What qualities do you admire in people?
Honesty, loyalty, generosity. I like to know who my friends are. And i do.
One thing you miss?
My siblings (yeah that's two but i combined them into one word), my brother lives in Canada and i haven't seen him for 6 years. My sister lives in the U.S.A. but sh'es coming over next month. Awesome.
One thing you'll never miss?
Full time employment, when i finally get the chance to leave it.

I'm going to let shut magazine get off lightly here because granted, it did come out of my mouth (see issue 2) so im gonna go for Drowned In Sound instead:

Bastard. I'll never forgive that journalist for that! But it's kinda gone down in histroy with my pals and suchlike so there you go...
