We interviewed foals back in March 2007, they used to play house parties back then...
...I remember my mum used to make me go horse riding when I was young. The thing is i'm allergic to horses, I only had to come within feet of one of the long faced bastards and I'd start sneezing and my eyes would puff up like that wasp dude from He-man...
I see you like playing house parties. What makes
playing them so much fun?
They're brilliant! We get to just have fun and try out new stuff and meet
nice people. we really like playing a show and then just arriving at some
party in a suburb and it going off. I think it's still a real novelty so it
feels special and unique for everyone.
Any good house party stories?
The last party we did was in a squat in london and the entire kitchen wall
got demolished by the end of the night. I think somebody got hold of a fire
extinguisher and decided to show his/her appreciation of our sweatiness
through a random act of destruction...all that was left was rubble and this
weird 'squat juice' that seems to have covered all of our gear! That was
cool...
You seem to be one of them 'trust me, they're gonna be massive' bands in
lots of people's eyes. Can we expect egomania of Axl Rose-size proportions
from Foals in this situation or would you remain boringly down to earth?
I think it's different for each of us. But we can guarantee that one foal
will find religion, one foal will become a recluse, one foal will lose
a limb, one foal will
become a bond company stooge and a final foal will open an ironic fast-food
chain called Chicken Jail.
Are you guys cool or are you gonna out-geek the Young knives when you tour
with them?
They're actually like real hipsters! It's all contrived... Their geek-chic
is a put on. We knew them back when they wore Reebok pumps and irono cod
pieces ....we're the real dweebs who just try and pass ourselves off as
cool, badly.
So what shall we expect from Foals in the next year?
Playing every city in the world. Twice. Putting out some records...and
perfecting our 'shapes'.
